2019 Therapy Top Picks - Amazon.com

As I’m sure you have seen all over the internet and spamming your e-mail, Amazon Prime Day is finally here!! Being a therapist with a limited budget and often a limited amount of time between clients, Amazon Prime has been an absolute life saver on more than one occasion; whether it be needing a new therapy game or play therapy item before my client’s next appointment, or restocking my favorite kinetic sand, Amazon has always come through for me and delivers it to my door within the next couple days without me having to run around to a million stores trying to find the perfect item at the perfect price!

This may seem like an unusual first blog post, but I figure, in honor of Amazon Prime Day, I’d round up and share some of my favorite Amazon purchases for the therapy office!

Play Therapy Toys/Games

Conversation Starters: I love having question cards on hand at all times for kids and teens, whether it be to pair with Jenga to learn more about each other in our first session, or using them as a wrap-up activity at the end of session. These “Our Moments” cards are a part of the two-day sale, but I love the "Ungame” cards series!

Traditional Therapy Games: I have a few “go-to” therapy games that are obviously created and intended to be therapeutic, but kids also love! My top three include: Monster Stomp, My Feelings, and Stop, Relax and Think. The Mindfulness Game is one that I have not tried, myself, but it has great reviews and is on super-sale for Prime Day! If you have a chance to check it out, let me know your thoughts!

Adaptive Therapy Games: I frequently utilize everyday games in therapy, such as Uno, Candy Land Kingdom, or Jenga to provide my kids in therapy with game options that are familiar, but also easy for me to implement “therapy rules”

Sand Tray Miniatures and Doll House: These items can be subjective to the individual therapist, but I highly recommend having a sand tray and doll house of some sort to provide kids with a variety of ways to communicate and share their stories. I have linked my favorite miniature set, doll set, as well as doll house and kinetic sand. I typically put the sand in a big tupperware container, like this one, to make it easily portable and save on the cost of a sand tray!

Books

Here are my top three favorite therapy books that I have used time and time again. The kids love to read them, they provide age-appropriate information, allow for open-ended discussion, and leave room for the child to provide their own narrative.

Art Supplies

I get so many of my art therapy supplies from Amazon because I can get them within two days and avoid the hassle of shopping around or having to run to different stores for different supplies. Outside of the typical crayons, markers, colored pencils, I highly recommend having watercolor paint, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, play-doh, popsicle sticks, sequins, and magazines.

In addition to purchasing therapy supplies, toys and games to use with my kiddos in session, I also purchase most of my educational books and workbooks off Amazon. When I don’t feel like adding another hard copy to my already “way too full” shelves, I download the books directly to my Kindle, which is on super sale right now for Prime Days...If you don’t already have an Amazon Prime membership, they’re offering a 30-day free trial, which is the perfect way to shop the Prime Day deals and stock up on your favorite therapy items!
